What does FermataConnect do?

Everybody lives somewhere. When classical musicians travel for work, they often pay rent at home and rent where they travel. We founded FermataConnect to significantly reduce classical musicians' rent expenses while travelling for work.

At its core, FermataConnect is a strictly curated professional platform that organises classical musicians to stay in each other's homes. To manage the digital infrastructure and run safety mechanisms we charge a subscription. We do not charge per night.

How It Works

For the platform to work it needs users, properties and the digital infrastructure to mediate between users.

Fermata Properties

Freelance classical musicians are away from home up to 320 nights a year. On Fermata, musicians offer their homes to other classical musicians in exchange for the promise to be able to stay at another musician's apartment when they themselves travel.

FermataConnect charges only a subscription fee for the platform. We have not yet decided on a sign-up fee. FermataConnect does not charge per night.

Fermata does not own, maintain or rent out properties directly.

Users - Who is on FermataConnect? Is it safe?

The central elements of FermataConnect are safety and trust. It is very important that we provide an environment that is safe. Therefore we have decided on several mechanisms.

We will open the platform to classical musicians only. At a later stage we may or may not open the platform to other professionals in the classical music space (e.g. directors, conductors, choreographers, stage designers). The platform will never open to anyone outside of the classical music space.

Our sign-up process: designed to eliminate bad actors

At FermataConnect we follow the basic principle that preventing unsafe situations is miles better than dealing with them. This is there will be no anonymity on our site. In order to give you access to the platform, we will need to know who you are.

Simply signing up will not be possible. Before you can create an account, you need to be recommended by at least one current member of the platform that is in good standing. As the platform grows, we will increase this to two and then later three recommendations before your account may be activated.

The account creation process will require a proof of identification with an official document, e.g. an identity card or passport and a proof of address. We will regularly check this. Every profile will include a full name, picture, instrument, home city and a friend list. Other users will be able to see mutual friends.

We designed this process so there is no anonymity, so that nobody can sign up under a false name. We can can only provide a safe environment if we know who is on the platform. Profiles will not be publicly available and will only be visible to other members that are logged in. Only we as FermataConnect (and those that book a stay with you) can see your exact address.

Once you have been recommended and your account information has been completed, you may book your first stay on our site.

Safety Mechanisms

Safety is our top priority and is non-negotiable.

We have designed our sign-up process such that bad actors will not be allowed on the platform.

We operate a strict zero-tolerance policy towards theft, wilful property damage and/or harassment of any kind (especially sexual). Any serious violations will result in a permanent ban from our platform. We will also assist in any civil or criminal cases being brought against users.

If you know of someone that should not be allowed on the platform, please write to us (and we mean that). We will maintain a (non-public) blacklist of people that will not be able to sign up.

FermataConnect Platform

The platform will function similar to Airbnb. You will be able to see property listings, availabilities, locations and pictures of the home. We will leave it up to users to allow their homes to be requested (and profiles to be reviewed) or directly booked.

FermataConnect charges only a subscription fee for the platform. We have not yet decided on a sign-up fee. FermataConnect does not charge per night.
